Saturday night's Raven Men's Basketball Heart of America Athletic Conference Semifinal match up with Missouri Valley College went right down to the wire.
In the end, Missouri Valley (20-10) was able to take the rubber match over Benedictine (24-8) by four points, 69-65.
The Ravens now wait for word on their tournament draw on Wednesday as they have earned one of the Heart's three automatic bids into the 2015 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Div. I Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.
On Saturday night after trading the lead with Valley, Benedictine took over the lead on a 3-pointer from Jonathan Anaekwe with just over 17 minutes left in the first half.
Benedictine turned a two-possession game into a 14 point lead as they used a 12-2 run that stretched from the 11:10 mark to the 6:40 mark of the first half.
Valley outscored Benedictine 14-5 over the rest of first half as the Ravens took a 37-32 lead into break.
The Viking run continued into the second half and when it ended at 22-5 with 16:56 left in the game, Benedictine trailed 40-37.
Anaekwe pulled the Ravens back even with the Vikings, 44-44, with 13:34 left in the game but Benedictine could never regain the lead in the second half.
Benedictine stayed within a possession for much of the second half before Valley went up by nine points with 3:40 remaining.
From there, the team traded free throws.
Valley's Brad Hamilton went 3 for 4 at the free throw line while Anaekwe sandwiched a 2 for 3 trip after being fouled an a 3-pointer as the Vikings were able to hold on for the four-point win.
Anaekwe finished with a team-high 16 points as four Ravens reached double figures. Brett Fisher and Harris Jr. each scored 12 points while Messersmith added 10. Fisher converted on four of Benedictine's six 3-pointers while Messersmith added six rebounds and five blocks.
