TOPEKA – The Raven Wrestling team sent three wrestlers to the 2015 NAIA Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday and all three scored points for the Ravens.
In the end, Stephen Loosbrock became the program's first two-time NAIA All-America selection as he earned fifth place at 197 pounds.
For Loosbrock, his road to fifth place started in the championship bracket second round where he earned a 1-0 decision over Kolton Kersten of Midland University. He fell in the Quarterfinals in a 4-3 decision to Jake Maupin of Lindsey Wilson to move to consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket he earned a 4-0 decision over Andrew Mahone of Missouri Baptist, and a 5-2 decision over Brandon Sunday of Indiana Tech before falling in sudden victory 3-1 to Hudson Buck of Dickinson State.
He earned a 2-1 decision over Maupin in the fifth-place match to secure his second straight All-American honors.
Gabe Suthoff earned his first trip to Nationals at 174 pounds and earned a 11-9 decision in the opening round over Marvin Lawrence of Campbellsville University. After falling in the second round by fall, Suthoff earned a major decision in the consolation third round, 16-6, over Conner Linehan of Willams Baptist. He lost by fall in the fourth round to Tyler Brown of Dickinson State to finish off his tournament run.
Ethan Jirak earned his second trip to Nationals at 184 pounds and like Loosbrock and Suthoff, earned a win in his first match. He earned a 2-1 decision over Lane Oversen of Dickinson State. After he lost his second match by fall, he earned a 9-6 decision over Austin Fehlhafer of Concordia to advance to the consolation third round. He suffered a 11-5 loss by decision in the third round ending his tournament run.
Suthoff finishes the season at 25-13, Jirak finishes his season at 12-4 and Loosbrock finishes his season at 24-12.
