The No. 22 Raven Men's basketball team survived a late scare from Park University en route to a 72-69 victory Saturday afternoon.
Benedictine (4-0) led 68-67 with 57 seconds remaining when Nathan Stacy fouled the Pirates' Xavielle Brown, who drained both free throw attempts to give Park a one point lead. John Harris Jr. marched the ball right back down the court however and converted in the paint to give the Ravens a 70-69 advantage with 41 ticks left.
The Ravens led by as many as 11 points with under ten minutes remaining, but saw the Pirates bury five 3-point shots and suddenly found themselves in a nail biter.
After a costly turnover by Park's Levi Mitchell with 17 seconds left, the Pirates comeback bid ended, following two more double bonus free throws by Harris Jr. and back-to-back misses from deep by Park to end the game.
Harris Jr. recorded a season-high 31 points, which also tied his career high single-game point total. He went 10-of-14 with six rebounds and was a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc while added six points from the free throw line. Jake Schannuth scored 10 points with five rebounds while Christian Hatterle and CJ Vallejo each put up six points and six rebounds.
The Ravens finished the game with a 45.8 percent effort from the field while hitting 57.1 percent from beyond the arc in the second half. They ale went 60 percent from the charity stripe.
Benedictine takes their undefeated mark into Heart play this week as they begin conference play with a 7:30 p.m. game on Wednesday against Peru State College.
