CANTON, Mo. – The Raven Men's Basketball team outscored Culver-Stockton College 44-37 in the second half on Saturday but in the end, couldn't overcome their 26-point scoring effort in the first half as the Wildcats snapped the Ravens winning streak with a 77-70 win.
Benedictine (5-1, 1-1 Heart) was limited to just nine field goals in the first half by Culver-Stockton (4-3, 2-0 Heart), which converted on 13 of their own.
The Wildcats led from the start building as much as a 21 point lead in the first half before the Ravens battled back to cut their deficit down to 12 points just before halftime.
Benedictine pulled within single digits for the first time since early in the first half with 4:25 remaining in the game on a shot by John Harris Jr. Three pointers by Jake Schannuth, Austin Eckert and Harris Jr. down the stretch kept the Ravens close but they could only pull within six points on the final 3-pointer by Harris Jr. with 15 seconds remaining.
The Ravens converted on 43.2 percent in the second half while the Wildcats connected on 50 percent to keep Benedictine at arm's length for much of the second half.
Schannuth scored a game-high 23 points in the loss while Harris Jr. finished with 15.
The Ravens return home on Tuesday to take on John Brown University at 7:30 p.m. inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
