SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Raven Men's Basketball team battled through six ties and six lead changes on Saturday en route to a 65-61 win over Evangel University to earn the regular-season sweep over the Crusaders.
Benedictine (13-9, 7-9 Heart) used a 53.8 percent shooting effort in the second half to hold off a comeback effort by Evangel (6-18, 5-11 Heart) who battled back from an eight-point deficit with eight minutes left in the game to make the game interesting down the stretch.
Benedictine led by as much as seven points within the first five mintues of play before Evangel went on a 12-0 run that erased Benedictine's lead and allowed Evangel to pull in front, 15-10, with just over eight minutes left in the half.
Evangel pulled the game into its fifth tie early in the second half and then back into the sixth and final tie midway through the half but could never take over the lead as they Ravens built as much as eight point lead in the second half.
The Ravens finished the game at 48.1 percent from the field with two players reaching double figures.
Adam Kutney scored a career high 14 points to lead the Ravens in scoring while Vallejo finished with 12 points. The Raven bench held a 34-14 advantage over the Crusaders, anchored by Kutney and nine points each from Shawn Fleming Jr. and Justas Norvilas.
Benedictine remains on the road Wednesday as they travel to Lamoni, Iowa, to take on Graceland University at 7:30 p.m.
