LAWRENCE – Three new records were established while one NAIA "A" standard and one NAIA "B" standard were hit this year the 89th annual Kansas Relays by the Raven Track & Field program.
Both Distance Medley Relay records fell. The men's relay team of John Danner, Andrew Doyle, Bob Bartush and Luke Friess finished in a time of 10:30.67 breaking the record for the event that had stood since 2006. The women's relay team of Nina Smart, Katie Weaver, Hannah Pinkerton and Lucy Leighton finished in a time of 12:37.34 to set a new program record.
"The environment at the Kansas Relays this weekend were ideal for those athletes looking to qualify and compete at NAIA Outdoor Nationals at the end of May," said Raven head coach Henry Brun. "I was extremely pleased with all the performances across the board. It was great to see the women's 4x800 relay qualify, and it is very promising that a number of other events - Women's 400 Hurdles, Men's 4x800 Relay, Men's 4x400 Relay, Women's 4x400 Relay - are right on the cusp of those national qualifying marks. I am really looking forward to seeing how we perform at the Heart Outdoor Championships in two weeks."
Will Wallace took sixth overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.65 meeting the NAIA "A" standard. He is currently ranked sixth in the NAIA in the event. The Raven women's 4x800 meter releay of Pinkerton, Lauren Benzing, Leighton and Hannah Wondra took fourth overall in a time of 9:28.7 to meet the NAIA "B" standard in the event. They are currently ranked 10th in the event.
