The Raven Volleyball program hosted a pair of Heart newcomers on Friday and Saturday as part of Benedictine's annual Family Weekend.
On Friday night, Clarke University swept the Ravens, 3-0, and then on Saturday morning, Mount Mercy University earned a 3-1 win over Benedictine.
In the loss to Clarke, the Ravens were limited to just 22 kills over the three-set match. Megan Ruzicka and Camila Araujo finished with five each to lead the offensive attack.Taylor Garner anchored the attack with 12 assists as the Ravens finished with 18 team assists.
Defensively, Carly Taylor anchored the back line with 20 digs as the Ravens finished with a total of 57. McKenzie Kraft finished with four block assists while Sara Rahmanzai added three. As a team, the Ravens finished with a total of six team blocks.
Saturday, the Ravens attack accounted for 42 kills in the four-set loss to Mount Mercy. Ruzicka and Kraft finished with nine kills each to lead the attack for the Ravens. Garner finished with 28 assists as the team tallied a total of 34.
Defensively, Taylor was one of two Ravens in double figures in digs with 26. Haley Cochran added 13 digs as the team finished with a total of 73. At the net, the Ravens finished with nine team blocks. Rahmanzai led the way with five block assists while Melissa Vernon and Maria Lanciotti each added three. Kraft also added three block assists and the Ravens lone solo block.
Benedictine travels to Baldwin City on Tuesday for a match up with Baker University.
