After a recovery weekend, the Raven Cross Country program was back in action on Saturday as they competed in the annual Haskell Indian Nations Invitational in Lawrence.
The Raven Women won the championship scoring 22 points as a team while the Raven Men took second place with 52 points.
Lauren Benzing anchored the effort for the Raven Women taking first-place individually. For her efforts on Saturday, Benzing was also named the Heart Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
In addition to Benzing's top finish, the Raven Women placed five runners inside the top 15 finishers. Lucy Leighton took fourth, Elise Buchman took sixth, Katie Ross took eighth and Monica Davied took 11th. Paige Case finished in 17th and Sydney Moser finished in 20th to round out the scoring runners for the Raven Women.
The Raven Men were paced by the fourth-place individual finish from John Danner. Joseph Barnes took sixth place and Phil Davis took 10th to give the Ravens three top 10 finishers. The program turns its attention to their next meet, the NAIA Mid-States Classic in Winfield, on Oct. 22. The meet, which will be filled with some of the top NAIA programs from across the region and country, will serve as the final tune up for the Raven Women and Raven Men as they prepare to defend their Heart titles at the annual Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships held this year in Kansas City, Mo., at Swope Park on Nov. 5.
