Trailing five points headed into the fourth quarter on Saturday, the Raven Women's Basketball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 61-57 win over Clarke University (3-3, 0-3 Heart).
Ali Taff connected on two straight 3-pointers inside the final minute of the game to pull Benedictine (4-2, 3-0 Heart) out of a four-point deficit into a two-point lead and then Rachel Baumgartner converted two free throws with three seconds remain to seal the win over the Crusaders.
Benedictine led 15-10 after the first quarter but a 19-point second quarter from Clarke erased the Ravens lead and gave the Crusaders a 34-29 lead at the break.
The third quarter saw the Crusaders remain in the lead as each team scored 12 points to head into the fourth quarter with Clarke holding a 46-41.
Trailing by seven points with just under three minutes left in the game, the Ravens started their comeback stepping up their defensive effort to hold the Crusaders scoreless over the remainder of the game. Benedictine closed out the game with an 11-0 run to earn the comeback win.
Benedictine finished the second half connecting on 12 of 15 at the free throw line, which included knocking in 9 of 11 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
The Ravens held the Crusaders to 37.1 percent from the floor and 0 for 5 from beyond the 3-point arc in the second half.
Kristen Murphy led the Ravens in scoring with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists. Taff finished with 10 points.
Benedictine returns to the road for their next Heart contest, traveling tp Springfield, Mo., on Nov. 22 to take on Evangel University at 5:30 p.m.
