DES MOINES – The Raven Wrestling team took seventh place as a team on Saturday in the NAIA Central Regional Qualifying Tournament and will send two wrestlers on to compete at the NAIA National Championship Tournament with a chance at earning a third selection.
Kevin Kelly took third place at 141 pounds to earn an automatic berth to Nationals by finishing in the top three at the qualifier. He was one of two wrestlers in the weight class to earn an automatic berth that entered the qualifier unranked.
Anthony Orozco was selected as one of the qualifiers six wildcard selections by the coaches at the conclusion of the tournament and will earn a trip to Nationals at 165 pounds. He took fifth place overall at the tournament and was ranked No. 7 among the wrestlers competing at 165 pounds at the tournament.
Each regional selects an additional six wildcard selections while there is a NAIA committee that will select an additional 30 wildcards from across the NAIA to qualify for Nationals.
Dillon Scanlon entered the tournament as the 10th seed in the qualifier but suffered an upset in the semifinals. He rebounded to take fifth place at 141 pounds but was not awarded a wildcard by the coaches at the conclusion of the qualifier.
The complete field - which will include the additional 30 wildcard selections - will be announced by the NAIA on Tuesday.
