ST. LOUIS – The Raven Men's Lacrosse team opened up their second intercollegiate season over the weekend with road trip to take on Asbury University and Montreat College at Missouri Baptist University.
Benedictine (2-0) picked up a 9-6 win over Asbury on Saturday and then wrapped up the weekend with an 11-4 win over Montreat on Sunday.
Against Asbury, the Ravens used a four-goal second quarter to take a 6-2 lead into halftime. That effort proved to be the difference in the game as the Eagles outscored Benedictine 4-3 in the second half.
Tomc went out to score two more goals to lead the team in scoring with four. Girard added two while Trevor Svoboda, Paul Meihaus and Grant Mallett scored a goal each. Svoboda led the team in assists with three while Girard finished with two. Chris Gerker and Daniel Lagenfield added an assist each.
Benedictine outshot Asbury 41-34 while holding a three shot advantage in the second half.
Zach McGuff and Vince Howerton combined in goal for the Ravens with McGuff playing the first 55 minutes while Howerton finished off the last give minutes of play. McGuff finished with seven saves while giving up four goals.
On Sunday, the Ravens scored 11 goals off 37 shots in their win over Montreat.
Brendon Boh, Svoboda, Patrick Schmitt and Ryan Heinser led the team with two goals each. Taylor Zarvell, Lagenfield and Ethan Novacek added a goal each. Zarvel and Mihail Sourgiadakis recorded two assists each with Remy Dujakovich and Grant Mallett adding an assist each.
McGuff earned the win playing all 60 minutes in goal. He finished with eight saves while giving up four goals.
The Ravens play their home opener on Saturday at 4 p.m. as they host Saint Ambrose University at the BC Soccer Complex.
