KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the third time in four years under head coach Ryan Moody, the Raven Men's Basketball team has earned a trip to the national tournament.
After finishing in a tie for second place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the NAIA announced on Wednesday that Benedictine earned an at-large berth into the 2017 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Div. I Men's Basketball National Championship.
The Ravens finished the season at 21-10 and earned the at-large No. 13 berth into this year's tournament for their 10th overall appearance while also makring the 50th anniversary of Benedictine's second NAIA National Championship in 1967.
Benedictine is the seven seed in the Liston Bracket and their opening round match up will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, inside historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City. The Ravens' opponent is the two seed in the Liston Bracket, The Master's (Calif.) College. They earned their berth into this year's tournament through winning the Golden State Athletic Tournament championship. The Master's is making their eight appearance and is a return qualifier from last season.
In all, the Heart earned four spots into this year's tournament. Joining Benedictine was Heart Tournament and regular-season Champion William Penn, Heart regular-season runner up Grand View and Mount Mercy who earned the Heart's host berth. William Penn is the No. 1 seed in the Duer Bracket, Grand View is the No. 6 seed in the Naismith Bracket and Mount Mercy is the No. 8 seed in the Cramer Bracket.
Single Day tickets are: Adults GA - $15, Students GA - $5 (Ages 6-18) and Kids - Free (Age 5 and under). Tickets can be purchased on site at Municipal Auditorium or on-line at www.naiahoops.com.
