KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three members of the Raven Women's Basketball team were named to the 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete Team on Monday as the Association released the annual list in conjunction with the conclusion of the Division I Women's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
The scholar-athlete honor is the first for all three. Beard is majoring in Business, Closer is a majoring in Elementary & Special Education and Murphy is majoring in Nursing.
Benedictine qualified for the NAIA Div. I National Championship Tournament for the third straight season and finished the regular season in second place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. They finished the season at 25-9 giving head coach Chad Folsom his 11th 20-plus win season with the Ravens.
