The Raven Men's Lacrosse team took on the top-ranked team in the NAIA on Wednesday night as No. 1 Missouri Valley College made the trip to campus.
Benedictine (4-5, 1-2 KCAC) struck first only to have Missouri Valley (5-0, 1-0 KCAC) scored six unanswered en route to a 19-3 win.
The Vikings outshot the Ravens 37-17, holding Benedictine without a shot in the third quarter.
Grant Mallett scored Benedictine's first goal of the game off an assist from Trevor Svoboda inside the first two minutes of play. Benedictine's second goal was scored by Peter Girard from Patrick Schmitt inside the final 90 seconds of the first half to send the game to halftime with Missouri Valley leading 7-2.
Benedictine's final goal of the game came in the fourth quarter when Girard fed Brendan Boh to cut the Vikings lead to 17-3.
Raven keeper Vance Howerton finished with eight saves in the loss. Defensively, of the 17 turnovers committed by Missouri Valley, Benedictine was credited with seven caused turnovers as Tyler Santini led the way with three caused turnovers.
Benedictine remains at home on Saturday for a 3 p.m. conference game against Clarke University. Saturday marks the Ravens home finale and the team will be recognizing their Senior class prior to the game at roughly 2:40.
