With their 14-7 win in the regular-season finale on Saturday, the Raven Women's Lacrosse team earned the outright 2017 KCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship as they finished the conference season with an undefeated record.
Benedictine (10-2, 6-0 KCAC) clinched the top seed in the 2017 KCAC Postseason Tournament after holding Midland (4-6, 2-2 KCAC) to just two second-half goals en route to their seventh straight win.
The Ravens found themselves in an early hole against the Warriors as Midland pushed out to a 3-1 lead over Benedictine with just over 21 minutes left to the play in the first half.
Goals from Marianna Brown, Mary McEnerney and Kacey Moore gave the Ravens their first lead of the game at 4-3 with 18 minutes left in the first half. After Midland pulled back even at 4-4, the Ravens were able to outscore the Warriors 2-1 to take a one-goal lead into halftime.
Benedictine came out of halftime and scored five unanswered to pull away from Midland en route to the seven-goal win.
McEnerney paced the Ravens offensively with five goals and two assists. Moore and Lizzie Darrow finished with three goals, Brown finished with two goals while Emily Ruhland added a goal. Clare Hanson, Cailtyn Chickey and Darrow added one assist each to go along with McEnerney's two.
Defensively, the Ravens recorded eight caused turnovers as Midland committed a total of 16. Teresa Petruccelli earned the win, playing all 60 minutes in goal for the Ravens. She finished with 12 saves, with eight saves coming in the second half. The Ravens limited the Warriors to just two second-half goals off 11 shots.
The KCAC Postseason Tournament will be played on April 20 and 22 in Leavenworth on the campus of the University of St. Mary. More information regarding the tournament will be released as the rest of the KCAC field completes the regular season.
