The Raven Softball team returned home on Wednesday to take on Avila University at the started a six-game homestand.
Avila (28-18, 18-11 Heart) headed off two comeback attempts by Benedictine (17-18, 9-13 Heart) to sweep the Ravens, 4-2 and 14-12.
In the opener, both teams recorded six hits while Benedictine stranded six runners to Avila's four.
Nikki McNeil earned the start inside the circle and she went the distance in the loss. She gave up four earned runs off six hits with five strikeouts.
At the plate, Courtney Parker was responsible for the Ravens scoring output with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Melanie Braun finished 2 for 4 at the plate while Chris Flucke added a double.
In the nightcap, the offense took center stage with a combined 29 hits at the plate.
Avila used a six-run fourth to pull away from Benedictine only to have the Ravens use a three-run sixth and a five-run seventh to pull within striking distance.
Alexi Gilham, McNeil and Lauren Berry all three appeared inside the circle for the Ravens with Gilham suffering the loss.
Defensively, the Ravens committed four errors which led directly to eight unearned runs.
The Ravens remain at home on Friday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Culver-Stockton and then wrap up the homestand with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against MNU.
