KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After going 21-24 this season with a Heart record of 13-19, the Raven Softball Team will continue play in the 2017 Heart Softball Championship.
Benedictine earned the No. 10 seed in the tournament and will have to win play-in game on Wednesday to advance into the eight-team tournament field.
For the first time in conference history, 10 teams will participate in postseason play. Four teams will participate in single-elimination games on May 3 to determine the final two spots in the double-elimination portion of the championship.
Benedictine will take on Baker University, who earned the No. 7 seed at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday for a shot at advancing into bracket play on Thursday. The other play-in game is between No. 8 Missouri Valley and No. 9 Culver-Stockton College. A win by Benedictine would put them into the bracket as the No. 8 seed where they would take on Grand View University at 10 a.m. on May 4.

Grand View claimed the No. 1 seed in the tournament, edging out fellow North Division rival Clarke by one game at the top of the standings. The next four seeds went to South Division teams, rounding out the six teams to fill out the automatic spots in the double-elimination portion of the tournament: Evangel, Avila, Central Methodist and MidAmerica Nazarene.
As members of the South Division, Benedictine and Baker played four games this season with the Ravens winning three of four against the Wildcats. The most recent meeting came on April 23 when the Ravens earned a sweep over the Wildcats.
