KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Due to the threat of inclement weather, the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Championship has been pushed back one day and will begin on Thursday, May 4. UPDATED BRACKET
Weather forecasts are predicting near 100 percent chance of rain in the area around US Baseball Park in Ozark, Missouri on Wednesday, May 3. Instead of risking the chance of a game being started and not completed, the conference has chosen to move back the start of the event by one day.
Benedictine will now take on MNU at 7 p.m. on Friday, rather then Thursday night as originally scheduled in order to avoid the weather in the Ozark area forecasted for today. That part of the region has also been hit very hard over the past weeks, but the area around US Baseball Park is free of flooding.
The pair of first round games will tentatively maintain their original start times. Evangel will face Culver-Stockton on May 4 at 10 a.m., while Avila and Graceland will follow at 1 p.m. The first full day of the tournament will be Friday, May 5 when the first day of the double-elimination portion of the event begins.
The schedule change also means that games will be played on Sunday, May 7. The final three games of the tournament remain as scheduled for Monday, May 8 and the "if necessary" championship game on Tuesday, May 9.
