KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the third time in program history, a member of the Raven Women's Basketball team will have her jersey put on display at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville.
Head coach Chad Folsom received word last week from the Hall of Fame that the jersey of junior forward Kristen Murphy will be added to the Ring of Honor in recognition for her efforts this past season as a member Benedictine College women's basketball team. The Ring of Honor includes All-Americans from NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and Junior College.
"This is a great honor for Kristen and Benedictine College," Coach Folsom said. "She had a remarkable season this year and is a leader both on and off the court. We are looking forward to great things from Kristen next season. ".
Murphy helped lead the Raven Women to a 25-9 overall record, a Heart of America Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Runner-up, and a trip to the NAIA Division I National Tournament in Billings, Mont. For her efforts, Kristen was named First-team All-Heart, 2nd Team NAIA All-American and a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete. She led the Ravens in scoring this season at 15.2 ppg, while setting the setting a new mark for single-season scoring in program history with 538 points.
The "Ring of Honor" is one of the more popular exhibits at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Since the Hall of Fame opened in 1999, there have been many great players in college women's basketball recognized through the years in the Ring of Honor. Kristen's #32 jersey will be on display in the Hall of Fame from mid-May 2017 through mid-May 2018. Former Raven Chayla Rutledge was also recognized by the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and had her jersey on display for two straight years after the 2014-'15 season and again after the 2015-'16 season.
