Benedictine College Athletic Director has announced that Atchison native Miranda Contreras will take over the Raven Dance Team for the 2017-'18 season.
"We are excited to have Miranda take over the leadership of the dance program," Gartenmayer said. "Her passion for dance is apparent and we are looking forward to what she can bring to our dance team."
Contreras has been teaching dance and doing choreography for over eight years and runs her own studio – Studio MB – in downtown Atchison where she offers a variety of dance and fitness classes. She has been involved with Benedictine since 2013 when she was invited to start a Zumba® Fitness elective within the Benedictine Heath, Wellness and Exercise Science Department.
"I'm super excited to be coaching the Benedictine Dance Team," Contreras said. "I can't wait to see all that we're capable of accomplishing this year."
While the Benedictine Dance Team has been part of the Raven Athletic Department for many years, they program is enter their second season a competitive team as the NAIA moved to a Competitive Cheer and Dance last year.
In addition to competing towards a qualification for the NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance Championships held in the Spring, the dance team also routinely performs at halftime of football and basketball games throughout the school year.
