FAYETTE, Mo. – After taking the first set of the match, the Raven Volleyball team lost their next three as Central Methodist University handed the Ravens their first loss in conference play.
Benedictine (4-1, 1-1 Heart) used a .394 hitting effort to take the opening set 25-19 before CMU (3-1, 1-0 Heart) earned the win with three straight wins, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.
Three Ravens finished in double figures in kills. Fleur Wesselink led the way with 14 while Sarah Rahmanzai and Sofi Thomas added 13 each. The Ravens finished the match with a .163 hitting percentage and a total of 50 kills.
Taylor Garner anchored the offensive attack with 35 assists as Benedictine finished with 44 assists as a team.
Defensively, the Ravens finished the match with 62 digs as three players finished in double figures. Abby Brown led the way with 18 digs, Hannah Thomazin was next with 12 while Haley Cochran finished with 10. Rahmanzai added one solo block and two block assists to round out the Ravens defensive effort.
The Ravens remain on the road as they travel to Phoenix on Friday and Saturday for the Firestorm Labor Day Classic hosted by Arizona Christian University.
The return home on Tuesday as they return to Heart play at 7 p.m. against MNU.
