PHOENIX – The Raven Volleyball team went 3-1 over the weekend as they took part in the Firestorm Labor Day Classic hosted by Arizona Christian University.
Benedictine (7-2) won matches over Life Pacific (Calif.), NCAA Div. III Bellhaven Univeristy and Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) while dropping their match to Arizona Christian. The wins over Life Pacific and Bellhaven were both 3-0 sweeps while the win over Embry-Riddle was a 3-2 win. The loss to Arizona Christian was a 3-2 loss.
As a team, the Ravens finished the four-match tournament with a .236 attack percentage as they totaled 204 kills.
Sofi Thomas led the attack with 66 kills over 16 sets played. She recorded a season high 24 kills in the loss to Arizona Christian while finishing with double-figure kills in each match played. Fleur Wesselink added 50 kills while Sara Rahmanzai added 44. Katie Stewart rounded out the offensive attack with 23 kills.
Brown directed the Ravens defensive effort over the four matches as she finished with a team-high 49 digs. Christel Haack was next with 45 while Garner finished with 33. In total, the Ravens finished with six players in double figures with digs as Carly Taylor finished with 21, Haley Cochran finished with 18 and Wesselink added 16.
At the net, the Ravens recorded 36 block assists on the tournament. Rahmanzai led the charge with 11 block assists while Stewart added seven.
The Ravens return home on Tuesday to host MNU in their first match inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
