After playing their first nine matches away from home, the Raven Volleyball team welcomed their first opponent inside the walls of the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium as they hosted No. 19 MNU in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
After rallying to win game two, Benedictine (7-3, 1-2 Heart) pushed MNU (6-4, 2-0 Heart) but in the end, the Pioneers were able to hang on for a 3-1 win over the Ravens.
MNU took the opening set 25-21 before Benedictine rallied to take set two, 25-23. After falling 25-22 in set three, the Ravens rallied from a seven-point deficit to pull within two points, 23-21, before the Pioneers were able to hold off the rally by the Ravens and earn the match win.
After being held to a negative attack percentage in the opening set, the Ravens hit .353 in set two to even the match. Despite outhitting the Pioneers over the final two sets, the Ravens were not able to break through against the Pioneers.
Taylor Garner anchored the offensive attack for the Ravens, finishing the match with 42 assists.
Defensively, Abby Brown led the back row with 15 digs while Christel Haack added 12. At the net, the Ravens defense finished with 12 block assists and one solo block from Sara Rahmanzai. Kate Hanson led the front row defense with three block assists while Wesselink, Rahmanzai and Katie Stewart added two block assists each.
The Ravens are off until Sept. 12 when they travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College in Heart play.
