KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off their bye week, the Raven Football team climbed to a season-high ranking on Monday as the NAIA released the fifth regular-season Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
Benedictine (5-1) gained 29 points in this week's poll to move to No. 12 from No. 14 last week with 195 points.
In total, three teams from the Heart were ranked this week. Heart South front-runner Baker University remained at No. 2 with 327 points while Heart North co-leader Grand View University moved up to No. 6 with 271 points. Grand View is currently tied on top of the Heart North standings with Benedictine as both teams lone losses have come at the hands of Baker.
This Saturday marks the beginning of what is considered conference play as both the North and South begin division play. Benedictine travels to Lamoni, Iowa, for a 2 p.m. game against Graceland University to open up Heart North play.
Headed into divisional play, the Ravens rank second in the NAIA in total rushing yards (1,718), rushing defense per game (62.2) and total sacks (26.5). Benedictine has the No. 3 scoring offense in the NAIA as they are averaging 53.2 points through six games. That scoring has been spread around this season as Ejay Johnson ranks fifth in total scoring (66) with Marquis Stewart (56) and Aaron Jackson (54) ranked 11th and 12th in total scoring.
The Ravens have scored 26 rushing touchdowns this season while they have scored 17 touchdowns through the air.
After traveling to Graceland on Saturday, the Ravens return home on Oct. 21 to host Culver-Stockton College for Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff on O'Malley Field is scheduled to 1 p.m. and will be streaming on BRSNtv.
