PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Raven men's basketball team outscored Park University on the road Tuesday night 16-6 over the final eight minutes to erase a second-half deficit and earn a 64-54 win.
Benedictine (8-3) led by three points at the half over Park (5-5) but quickly fell behind at the start of the second half by as much as six points.
The Ravens jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and held onto their first half lead until the midway point.
Park went on a 9-2 run to erase Benedictine's lead and push ahead by as much as seven points late in the half. The Ravens responded with a run of their own, outscoring the Pirates 17-7 over the final seven minutes of the half to take the lead at the break.
Benedictine forward Charlie Wallrapp (Jr., Omaha) had a strong first half. Wallrapp had 17 points at the break and scored 15 of Benedictine's first 26 points in the half.
In the second half, the Ravens limited the Pirates to just nine field goals and just one 3-pointer.
While Benedictine converted just three 3-pointers in the second half, they came at critical moments of the half.
All three 3-pointers were converted by guard Luke Norville (Soph., Council Bluffs, Iowa). The first 3-pointer pushed Benedictine head 46-45 with 9:12 remaining. The second 3-pointer pushed the Ravens ahead 51-48 seconds later and the final 3-pointer pushed Benedictine's lead to five points with just under four minutes left in the game.
While Park finished with three players in double figures, none of them could match the game high 22 points of Wallrapp.
Guard Jonathan Anaekwe (Soph., Shawnee) added 10 points going 4 of 4 from the charity stripe. Norville finished with 9 points while forward TJ Stevens (Sr., Overland Park) added 8 points and 10 rebounds.
The Ravens are off the rest of this week and the first of next week for finals and return to the court on Friday, Dec. 14, with a trip to Columbia, Mo., to take on NAIA Div. I No. 6 Columbia College.
