It was as if taken straight off a movie script on Saturday night as the No. 6 Raven men's soccer program celebrated the contributions of their senior class while playing the feature varsity contest of the annual Homecoming Weekend.
Two of the Raven seniors honored before the match against Culver-Stockton contribute to all three Benedictine goals as the Ravens earned a 3-0 win on Senior Night.
Benedictine (10-2-1, 5-0-1 HAAC) outshot Culver-Stockton 27-4 en route to the win.
The Ravens got on the board during the 20th minute when Jade Mesias converted on a penalty kick.
Mesias factored in on the second goal of the match for Benedictine, this one coming during the 40th minute when he connected with fellow senior Jacob Fischer to stake the Ravens to a 2-0 advantage at the half.
Fischer added his second goal of the night during the 48th minute on an unassisted goal to help send Benedictine into the final week of HAAC play still in the driver's seat.
The Raven defense held Culver-Stockton to just four shots on the night, none of which were on goal which helped Raven keeper Taylor Vinnage secure his third shutout of the season.
Benedictine finished with 17 shots on goal, which could have left the final tally well in their favor had it not been for a 14-save effort defensively by Culver-Stockton keeper Richard Balak.
The Ravens have three matches remaining in the 2013 regular season, starting with a 7:30 p.m. match at home on Tuesday night against Graceland University. They close out the conference regular season next Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. match against MNU before wrapping up the 2013 regular season with a match on Oct. 29 against Kansas Wesleyan University.
