Men's Soccer - Sat, Nov. 23, 2013

The sixth-seeded Benedictine (Kan.) College men's soccer team not only needed 110 minutes to decide their 2013 NAIA Men's Soccer National Tournament Opening Round, they needed one extra PK to punch their ticket to Montgomery, Ala.

After playing through a scoreless draw, the Ravens and Tigers headed to a PK shootout where each team converted all five regulation kicks to extend the match.

John Nadrozzi, Michael Da Silva, Tyler Gill, Todd Bevan and Robby Gunderson converted PKs for Olivet Nazarene while Jade Mesias, Gui Gomez, Fabio Priore, Jacob Fischer and Sean Latz converted to keep the shootout even for Benedictine.

After Richard Paret missed the sixth shot for ONU, it came down to Benedictine's Brian Flores. Flores was able to beat ONU keeper Zach Chambers and send Benedictine on into the next round of the NAIA National Championship.

Chambers and Benedictine keeper Taylor Vinnage could have easily earned Man of the Match status for their efforts over the course of 110 minutes of soccer on Saturday night. Chambers tallied nine saves while Vinnage turned away six shots on goal to keep the scoreless draw intact.

Benedictine outshot ONU 16-14 and finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal as the two teams traded punches offensively over the course of the match.

ONU finishes their season at 15-5-2 while Benedictine improves to 11-4-2 and advances to Montgomery to take on eleventh seeded Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday, Dec. 3. They Ravens will play their round of 16 match at 6:30 p.m. (CST). More information on how to follow the Ravens as they make their run through the remaining rounds of the NAIA Tournament will be posted on www.ravenathletics.com as information is finalized this week.
