Trailing by 16 points 2:51 left in the game on Thursday night, the No. 9-ranked Raven men's basketball team rallied to outscore Peru State College 22-11 over the final two minutes of the game.
Unfortunately for Benedictine (15-4, 8-2 HAAC) Peru State (9-11, 4-6 HAAC) went 5 of 6 at the free throw line over the final 15 seconds to hold off the Ravens and snap Benedictine's winning streak at four games with a 74-69 upset.
The two teams played through eight ties and four lead changes over the first 13 minutes of the game before Peru State took the lead with 6:54 left in the half.
Peru State pushed their advantage to as much as eight points before Benedictine closed within three points at the halftime, outscoring the Bobcats 9-4 over the final four minutes of the half.
Peru State's Justin Jones pushed the Bobcats lead back to three points, 38-35, with just under 15 minutes left in the game. From there, Peru State outscored Benedictine 25-12 over the games next 12 minutes to pull ahead by 16 before Benedictine started their come-back effort.
The Bobcats went to the free throw line 27 times in the second half, knocking in 25 and finished the game hitting 77.5 percent.
The Ravens only went to the line a total of 22 times, converting on 15 free throws which proved to be one of the deciding factors in the game.
Peru State won the turnover battle, forcing Benedictine into 17 while committing 11 but were only able to score a 16-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Benedictine finished with four players in double figures, led by Wallrapp's game high 23 points. He also pulled in a game high 10 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season.
Nate Bohy led the Bobcats with 20 points, anchoring the teams night at the free throw line as he converted 9 of 11.
