After their first chance at a home opener was canceled due to poor weather, the Raven softball team was finally able to take to the home field at the BC Softball Field on Monday.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, the Ravens took on Bethany College on Monday afternoon and fell in their home-opening doubleheader, 16-3 and 7-6.
After falling behind early in the opener, the Ravens managed to plate three runs off four hits and took that momemtum into game two which needed eight innings to decide the final outcome.
Bethany (11-15) broke open game one with a 10-run second inning that led to a run-rule shortened outcome.
Katelyn Nill suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs off seven hits in one inning of work. Abby Rector and Katie Ricklefs finished the game, with Ricklef throwing the final three and two-third innings, allowing just one earned run off five hits. Rector gave up eight runs off four hits.
At the plate Ricklefs picked up a solo home run while Allison McCormick added an RBI.
In game two, the Ravens scored their six runs off eight hits and scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
Ricklefs went 2 for 4 with a home run while Jenna Fitzpatrick went 2 for 2 with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs. Sadie Hilliard added a 2 for 3 effort with a run scored to round out the Ravens at the plate.
Ricklefs threw seven and two-third innings to suffer the loss, She gave up seven runs off 13 hits.
Benedictine remains at home for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Wednesday against Kansas Wesleyan University back at the BC Softball Field.
