After playing a through a scoreless first half on Saturday night, the Raven men's soccer team struck during the 48th minute of play and held Baker scoreless throughout the remainder of the match to open Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 win over the Wildcats.
Benedictine (5-4-1, 1-0-0 Heart) outshot Baker (4-5-1, 0-1-0 Heart) 15-11 en route to the win.
Kenneth Clarizio scored the lone goal of the match, as he was able to beat Baker keeper Nick Riggle during the 48th minute.
Benedictine was able to maintain their lead due to solid defensive play and a big night from keeper Taylor Vinnage.
Vinnage went the distance in goal for the Ravens to earn the shutout, his third of the season, while recorded eight saves.
The Ravens hit the road for their second Heart match up as they travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on No. 19 Missouri Valley College. The Vikings earned a 3-2 win Saturday over Graceland University.
Heading into the second week of Heart play, Benedictine, Avila Univesity, Missouri Valley and MNU are all 1-0-0 in conference play.
